Philosophy of Nursing Practice

I am a nurse. I am a skilled and competent healthcare professional. I recognize the innate value and worth of human life. I strive to provide safe, ethical, culturally competent, compassionate care. I maintain my patient's personal dignity and confidentiality. I am a patient advocate and educator, guided by scientific research and best, evidence-based practice. I am empowered by knowledge to promote health and holistic healing in every dimension - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I am a therapeutic caregiver, selflessly giving of myself. I am a collaborator who brings together all disciplines of the health care team to achieve and maintain wellness. I am a mentor and teacher, helping to shape the future generation of nurses. I am a leader who understands financial statements and can advise the boardroom on issues concerning my discipline. I am a manager with the ability to motivate people. I am an administrator who thrives on efficiency, cost containment and patient satisfaction with excellent customer service. I write to policymakers and am involved with the legislative process in matters that concern our profession. I have an unquenchable passion for learning and I never stop growing, knowing I am accountable to my patient and the community. I am an indispensable part of the healthcare team and essential to the wellbeing of my patient and their family. I am a nurse.
